Spark arrestor
A spark arrestor is a fine metal screen or baffle that catches burning particles before they can escape from an exhaust, chimney or vent. It lets hot gas and air pass through while trapping embers large enough to start a fire. Many wildfire-prone areas require them on chainsaws, dirt bikes and wood stoves.
Example: The small wire mesh screen inside a chainsaw muffler is a spark arrestor that stops glowing carbon from landing in dry leaves.
