Radiation shield
A radiation shield is a barrier, usually a shiny metal sheet, placed between a hot object and something that must stay cool to block heat traveling as infrared radiation. A polished surface reflects most of that radiant heat instead of absorbing it. Leaving an air gap behind the shield also limits heat moving through by conduction.
Example: The shiny metal heat shield over a car's exhaust pipe keeps the hot pipe from cooking the floor of the car above it.
